The Haitians left Tuesday morning. it was kind of bittersweet. the elders have been really creepy. they would each single out a girl and write letters and poems and talk about how they want to get married after our missions. and when we would walk by them they would whisper ""i love you hermana" really quietly .. so creepy. but, the sister Haitians were always so sweet and kind. the night before you left we all sang God be with you til we meet again. it was so powerful. they just sat and listened as we sang and everyone was crying. i couldn't help but think they looked like soldiers, especially because of where they come from. they are some of the strongest people i know.
On Tuesday we got to go to the store. it was fun to be able to see the city again but terrifying to drive in a car. the girls couldn't stop screaming and we almost hit many many cars. i was able to buy hangers and chocolate and some other stuff. i also got a bon! (DR ice cream/yogurt shop) yum yum yum. on Wednesday we had to all move rooms because of a bunch of Latinos were coming. all the girls were moved to bigger rooms but my companionship was moved to the third floor, all by ourselves, to a really small room. we had no shelves so we moved the beds and "borrowed" some shelves and tables from the classrooms. the problem is, the room is not big enough to have the the beds in an L so one bed is against the wall and the other one is right next to it. we love sleeping one foot from each other... its the best. also, we have less closet space and the shower is ALWAYS cold. yea for cold birthday shower. but on the bright side we have a real window and we got a new companion yes, another one so we are now a foursome. although most of the incoming sisters were Latinos this sister, sister Joseph is from st Lucia going to serve in the west indies. she was the only English speaking sister to come in so she is with us! she is not in our district so we walk her to class and pick her up. so far its great. she got in at 2 in the morning last night and turned on all the lights. last night we were super tired and funny and wrote all kind of notes for her to read... i don't think she thought they were funny... she kept muttering "interesting" and other things in creole. but really, shes great and super sweet. she was baptized two years ago, is 20, and last night was the first time she ever left st Lucia AND the first time she has ever seen a temple... ever. we get to take her through tomorrow! i never realized how blessed we are to live so close to a temple. her mom has never been through the temple and may never get to. lately, i have been trying really hard to be friends with the older districts because the are kind of clique. but good news, we love each other now. we always have the best time together and they are so much fun.
On Tuesday we got to go to the university again. its so fun to get to use our Spanish and talk to all the people! but, it is so hot outside, we were dying. thank you for all the birthday cards, I had my birthday fue muy muy muy MUY bien. I actually got the card the Friday before my birthday- such a great surprise i didn't open it until my birthday. thank you SO much! I love the necklace so much. good thinking on the r for the letter. i have the greatest sweetest companions ever. throughout the week they had been giving everyone in the ccm sticky notes to write my birthday notes. i don't know how i never noticed them doing it because we are together literally 24/7. when i got up to take a shower they got up and wrote ":happy birthday hermana rush we love you!"on my mirror along with a big heart and the sticky notes from every one all over it. then in all my classes and at every meal everyone sang to me. my companions got me chocolate and a can of Dr pepper (the only can in the entire store) and straws and macaroni and cheese. some other girls gave me cards and candy. each district also each wrote me cards. and at dinner everyone was wearing birthday hats and sang to me AGAIN! I even got a special pink birthday hat,. we ate hamburgers for dinner which was great and I drank my Dr pepper. then hermana y presidente freestone walked out with three cakes and everyone sang again and we all ate cake and ice cream. my cake was so so yummy and had a 20 on it. 20... kind of sad... i liked being 19. an elders birthday was today so he got a cake too with a 19 on it. hermana freestone also gave me a beautiful card that she water colored herself with a sweet note. and i got so many birthday emails and one from hermana Rodriguez the mission presidents wife. all my teachers gave me cards and they sang me specials Dominican birthday songs. It seriously was such a great birthday and I felt so loved. thank you to everyone!
