Last week at the ccm!
I cannot believe it is almost time to leave the ccm! It seriously FLEW by. So, my Spanish is coming along. I gave a lesson in Spanish WITHOUT notes last week. Like I told you last week, we got new roommates and they are so cute. They are all super short and cute and they make me laugh all the time. The new group here at the cmm is really awesome. They are all so nice and fun and they only speak Spanish so we do a lot of charades. Yesterday, a girl in my district was talking to someone and was trying to tell him he wasn't fat but instead said he wasn't "ud es no guapo"- you are not awesome. She said it kind of loud and the whole cafeteria was silent except I couldn't stop laughing. When she realized what she said she said lo siento (I'm sorry) a million times and it was super funny. There is an elder here who wears a woman's, boat neck, 3/4 sleeve sweater practically every day. I don't think he knows it's a woman's but no one wants to tell him. There is also an elder who looks just like gaston from beauty and the beast only super short and he thinks he's really cool. Yesterday he took off his tie, popped his collar and unbuttoned the top couple of buttons. We were laughing so hard, especially when hermana freestone had to go tell him to button his shirt.
When the new group came in we got new teachers...the one we have at night was really scary at first. He is like 6'6 and pretty serious. He really hates our previous evening teacher and one day he was demonstrating some sort of grammar and as an example said "hermano nunez no es mi amigo" without thinking I said "hermano nunez es mi amigo" it got really awkward and we just stared at each other for a couple seconds. Pero, he has lightened up and we are really great friends now and he even laughs sometimes.
On Friday we were supposed to go on splits but we went contacting at this giant book fair instead. We had a couple of really good experiences. We talked to one guy who said he believed in Jesus Christ but he didn't have a religion right now. We shared a short message with him and got his information and he seemed really interested! We talked to a group of people, one was a man from Haiti, another was a man from Georgia who didn't speak any Spanish and another was a girl from Italy. It was a really strange group but they were really nice. When we told them how old we were, what we were doing and how long we are here for they thought we were CRAZY. The man from Haiti said he was currently meeting with the missionaries which was awesome. Another girl, named jasmine, was probably 15 and originally from New York I think she just wanted to talk and be fb friends but she was nice and we got her contact information. When we told her we have only been here for 4 weeks she said "oh, that's why your not tanned yet." nope, that's just my skin. We laughed pretty hard at that.
There is this really really funny girl in my district. On Sunday after lunch we were just talking and she said she was bored with her hair so I said she should cut it short (it was really, really long). She thought about it for literally two seconds and shrugged and said "okay". Then she went and found someone and she cut all her hair off! It was so funny and entertaining and I couldn't believe she actually did it. But, it started a hair cutting epidemic. All the girls starting cutting their hair short. Don't worry, I am not going to do it.
On Monday the entire ccm was sick. It was sad but really funny. We didn't really have class because no body left their rooms. My companions and I were some of the only ones not to get sick. On Sunday we watched a really really great devotional by elder Holland who is one one my very favorite speakers. He talked about this mission being a privilege not an obligation. How God is hastening his work and how we are so so lucky to be missionaries at this time. He said "go out an astonish someone today". I LOVE that quote. We need to be passionate about this gospel because it is the greatest thing we have in this life. It IS this life. One of the area 70 has a down syndrome son who comes and hangs out sometimes and He is the greatest thing ever! He is super good at sports and rollerblading and dancing. He can even do a cartwheel into the splits on Rollerblades He also works in the temple on Thursdays so we are around him a lot and have become good friends with him. Yesterday he gave us a paper that said... "I would like to share a special scripture and this scripture has a special meaning and here is the scripture... proverbs 27:19... this scripture is about reflection and this message of this scripture is about if you know your heart you will know other peoples heart and this message is one to remember because we are all the same inside... from your friends Reid" it also had a picture of himself on it. Isn't that the cutest thing ever? We are very lucky to know Reid and learn from him because he is a very strong spirit. So I cannot believe I leave on Tuesday. On Tuesday we all go to the mission home. We have interviews and I think we stay there that night. On Wednesday we get our assignments. I don't know when I am going to be able to call on Sunday but keep your cell phones with you! If I have to buy a calling card I will just use my card. Luckily both of my companions are in my same mission so goodbyes won't be as hard. Thanks for all the letters everyone! I love you all and I might be able to email again before I leave!
(This was an extra little note she sent)
Thank you SO much for the package. I loved it so much and everyone was so jealous and excited for me! The chocolate was melted but it sill tastes prefect. I told every about the boy who broke his neck and they all freaked out(she wrote Savanna that they are all praying for Anthony). It's really funny that you asked about the chicken in that picture (I asked her if she really ate fried chicken on the bone with skin that she sent us a picture of-yuck!) I have a really hard time eating meat with skin on it and everyone makes fun of me. I just think its super gross so I have to take the skin off. When I told my companions what you said they laughed pretty hard because its pretty much a daily topic. I cant wait to talk to you on Sunday !! happy early mothers day by the way and happy birthday to Alison and Both Grandmas! tell them I love them! love you and miss you! tell syd and Davis I love them and say hi!
