The Campo-Take Two

Hermana Huish and Rush have know each other since
Olivia was 4 and Madison was 5.  We never
dreamed they would be mission companions!
Hi everyone! So it has definitely been a great week. Monday we were in the capital and STILL didn't know where we were going or who our companions would be. I tried to squeeze it out of the assistants but they didn't spill. But our calls came Monday night.... turns out me and my companion will be whitewashing an area in Southern DR. Just my luck right? going from the coolest area in the mission to the very hottest. Everything I have heard about it has been great though so I was excited. and... my companion is... HERMANA HUISH!!!! No, this is not a joke. By this time I had told everyone I knew that she was coming so we were all freaking out. How crazy is that? What are the chances that we would be in the same mission and then be companions?? I just think its crazy because we had all joked about it for so long and then it actually happened.

So Tuesday morning was crazy. What they do is everyone sits in the transfer chapel and they announce the areas and companionships one by one. At this time the new missionaries still don't know anything so its kind of fun. Then everyone meets their companions and then we have meetings separately. Our meeting was really good and president talked a lot about being a good example to your companion and all that jazz. That night we had to spend the night in the capital because our house wasn't ready.
The hot ride to the new area
Wednesday we drove out there, which takes forever and got all settled in. We are in a little pueblo just outside the city . I dont know why president likes to stick me in little tiny towns really far away but he does. The town is... different. Its pretty small and is kind of like a ghost town. The whole town rarely has light or water. We have light from about 1 am until 8 am which is nice because then our fans turn on at night.  But when we get home we have to use candles. Also its kind of scary at night because the town doesn't have light so the streets are super, super dark-like we trip and fall it's so dark. When we get home we just lay on our beds and talk because we can't do anything else. But it has been really fun! Hermana Huish is super fun, of course, and already a great missionary. One thing I really appreciate is she isn't afraid to try. I remember my first days in the field were kind of scary because you don't really know anything, but she is doing SO great. She is already able to participate a ton in the lessons. God blesses us a lot when we put aside our fears and just try. Also, we are doing a lot of 12 weeks (training studies) which is helping us to grow a lot as a companionship and learn how to teach together. The rama (branch) here is soo great. There are A TON of great members who just want to love us and help us out. We are a little bit lost right now because we are whitewashing so we are doing a lot of finding. The problem is the elders didn't really write where the investigators live so we just have to walk around and ask people. We are also doing a lot of contacting but everyone is really receptive. Lucky for us, the elders had a lot of great investigators. I think we have two baptisms coming up soon which is exciting. We have an investigator who is deaf and mute so that is a challenge I have never come across before.
So we just moved into a new house and a lot of weird things have been happening. There are always a lot of weird men hanging around our house and on the corner, (because we live on the corner), especially at night. And it's always really dark so its kind of scaryish. Last night the other hermanas got scared I guess so they called the district leaders and told them what was going on. They called the ayudantes (assistants to the President) and then president found out and called the district president... long story short our branch president and 5 other priesthood holders showed up because they were really worried. Super sweet. Then we found out there is a... house of prostitution next door! So that made a lot of sense.  But we spent all night on the phone with president and we are probably going to move. Let me tell you, there is nothing more nerve wracking than trying to talk to president on the phone in Spanish about stuff like that. But everything is good and we have a gate around our house so I think we will be fine. Our house is great. super big. There is one bigger room upstairs that has a ton of windows and a big balcony and that is our room. We love it and it is a lot cooler.  There are two bedrooms downstairs too. The only problem is there is never light and water. Azua is not like I thought it would be. It's definitely a lot greener and not quite as hot. And the people are soo great. Our district has a goal to be a stake by March so that's exciting. That's all I've got for this week but I love you all so much and I am SO excited for these next two transfers (12 weeks). We are already learning so much and learning to rely on God. When we give Him all we have He makes up the difference and He makes it enough.
love you! Hermana Rush

  1. She looks and sounds so good and how fun that she and Sister Huish are companions! We sure love that daughter of yours and are so grateful that she and Haley are friends for LIFE! This whole idea of sending out daughters on missions tugs at my heart strings still! Charlotte, I hope you are surviving and that you are tougher than me!
