Spare fingers in bottles

Hi everyone!

So I had a pretty exciting week full of baptism preparations. On Tuesday  a little girl we are teaching named A, who is awesome, asked us for money.  She said she didn't want to but her dad was making her. Her dad drinks all the time and then they don't have money for food. It is super, super sad. She is 13 but she is really bright.  She always reads what we ask her to read and has a lot of great stuff to say.  If she gets baptized it won't be until August or September. Jovenes get super excited about the church for a couple of weeks and then lose interest so we have to teach them for a long long time to make sure they are for real. We also met with A,N. who is super awesome.  Every time we meet with her she has some new insight to share.  This week we started reading the book of Mormon with her.  She hasn't read it all the way through and she is trying to finish is before August.   She was super excited but she thought the story of Nephi and Laban was gross.  She asked us how Nephi put on Laban's clothes because they were probably all bloody from cutting off his head and we just said "err.. good question".  But then I started thinking about it and I really have no idea. That's super gross!  She told us C was offended and that the real reason he was taking the lessons was because he wanted me to be his girlfriend.  So we quitared him.  That is literally the 4th time we have had to cut someone because they are more interested in us than the gospel.  Then we met with an old woman who totally lip kissed me.  What is it with these people? One of our investigators moved to the capital and two more disappeared.  So typical. It's pretty frustrating.  So also on Tuesday we went to Lourdes.

Great story... so we started talking about  the little boy, J with the extra finger.  His mom used to have the same little fingers.  When she was a teenager her mom made her cut them off and she cried and cried and said ..." no not the little fingers!!!".... so that's why the J hasn't cut his off.  Because his mom says they are from God and God doesn't make anything ugly. It turns out J used to have another one,  but one day he was making a kite and the string got all tangled around the finger and the finger died. It turned black and was just flopping around. So then they cut it off and put it in a jar. ahh!!  At this point I was dying AND THEN they brought the jar out and I was about to lose it. And I took a picture of it. Enjoy! (Unfortunately the picture didn't come through.)   If you zoom up you can actually see the finger.   Then we went and visited a menos activo family.   The 11 year old son actually goes to church every week by himself. Isn't that cool? We ate dinner there. Mission rule is don't eat at members houses. But when you go to a family who literally has nothing and they scrape together their pesos to make a nice meal and they bring it out to you literally beaming, there is no way we could say no. To them this is all they can give us and it is their way of helping us and serving us.  This family is super great and they said they are going to start coming back!

On Wednesday we did a lot of menos activo work. It really doesn't count for a whole lot as far as numbers go, but we love it, and we have already seen a huge difference.   We are working with a lot of families and a lot of them are coming back to church.  It has been great to see our little branch grow since we have been here.  That night we ran into our crazy neighbor.   She is 9 and super enthusiastic and nice but a little bit crazy.   She tried talking to me in English but it sounded like Chinese.   She asked Hermana D if she spoke English and she said no. so then she tried to teach Hermana D English (she is from Utah and speaks English). Super funny.  On Thursday we went to the Haitian paca again and I bought a skirt for 2 dollars and then did more menos activo work.  All the women in our branch want us to come teach there menos activo sons because we are white.  A member gave us mangoes.   The mangoes on our tree aren't ripe yet but apparently everyone else's are because they are handing them to us left and right.  We met with E, a menos active.   She is soo awesome.   She is an engineer and super educated.   She has started coming back to church.   She was baptized when she was  a teenager in 1991 so she knows a ton about the gospel. We gave her the most recent conference.   When we meet with her we talk about conference and she always has the greatest insight.   We are trying to get her a calling so that she will be committed to going to church.   She is the one who is divorced with two little kids so sometimes it's hard for her.   We had a yw meeting and a relief society meeting and English class. All great.

Friday we had a little party with some members because Hermana P is going home. so sad!   We had spaghetti and they gave us portions that could feed our entire family. Saturday, BAPTSM.   Can i just tell you it was the greatest day ever?!  I love that family soo much. I have loved seeing them grow in the gospel. The 9 year old was baptized first and then the 8 year old and then the mom.   They were so so so excited and when they came out of the font they were just glowing.   The daughter didn't get baptized with them and was super sad and crying.   Hopefully soon though.   Anyway, they all bore super sweet testimonies after and it was just really special.   The spirit we felt was just so sweet and pure.   I am so grateful I had the opportunity to teach them, to know them and to learn from them.

Sunday, first day of the new transfer!   Our family was confirmed so that was really special.  We had a ton of menos activos come to church so that was good. Later we taught SO many great lessons and we found G and D, two investigators who had gone missing. One had been sick and the other had been out of town. We were so grateful to have found them again because they were two of our favorites. G even went to church both Sundays he was gone and hopefully will be baptized this transfer. Sunday night... transfer calls.Ii am staying with my trainer in Ocoa. Hermana P is dying, going home, so reyes the costa rican is getting another trainer which we call the step mom. This is her last transfer.  I am really exciting for this coming transfer. Hope you guys are doing great, love you all!
