Hi Everyone, hope you are all doing great! Hermana Huish and I are of course having a great time here. No light, no water, no food... but what's new right? We still live by the prostitute house but it's whatever. There really is no where else we can live. So Tuesday we did a lot of great things that I am having a hard time remembering because I forgot my journal and my agenda. But I remember that we had a music class... kill. me. Have you ever tried to teach music in Spanish to a bunch of Dominican teenage boys? Because it's hard. They were all members and and around 18 and 19. Super great, but they could not figure out how to lead the music. Right now we are trying to encourage them all to go on missions. They are all super active and great so we are hoping they will go.

Wednesday was the slowest day ever. We walked around and all of our citas fell through. So we decided to make and copy and pass out invitations to O's baptism which was good. We got the whole branch excited. Then we found a man selling sugar cane so we bought some and then felt really ghetto. Sugar cane is like a big stick and you have to gnaw it off and then chew it and spit it out. Kind of like tobacco for Mormons. Then we were walking to another cita and we saw a man in a tree who was super fresh but gifted us 6 coconuts. We couldn't carry them all so we just took two, but it was very nice of him and now we have two coconuts. And we also invited him to church so that was a bonus. We met with O after that.. she is the greatest thing ever. I can't remember what I have told you about her but she is 18, she has read the book of Mormon 3 times and loves the gospel. The only problem is she is SO timid and sometimes she goes to Azua and can't go to church. But she loves the gospel and that's what counts. Anyway, she had a fecha (baptismal date) for Saturday.... story for later. O called her dad to tell him she wanted to be baptized and he was mad but she told him she loves the gospel and wants to be a missionary. How cool is that? She is awesome.
Anyway, really late that night the elders called and said that we had to move up her baptism to 3 on Saturday, bummer right? They would change the time right after we had handed out all the invitations. Then we spent all morning Thursday walking around trying to talk to president of the branch, O, the elders, president Rodriguez about this baptism. Talk about hectic. And we didn't even get things figured out.

Friday we had district meeting which was fun and we had treats after so that was obviously the best part. But the zone leaders were there and they told us about a special meeting they had with elder Zivic. In the meeting elder Zivic shared a talk about purification and an experience where he fasted and made a list of things he was wanting to change. For 30 days he tried really hard to do these things and then fasted again at the end of the 30 days. So, as a zone we are doing that. I am actually really excited for it. Sometimes it's nice to just take a step back and reflect on the kind of person we are and the kind of person we are wanting to be. That same day hermana Huish and I were walking around and we saw the biggest pig in the whole world. It was so crazy and so huge! The weird things we see!... Saturday we FINALLY got to study. We had had such a crazy week so it was nice to have a morning inside. We have made it a goal to try to be bolder in our teaching, in our contacting and in our extending of invitations and to try to really teach by the spirit. We really tried to focus on that in our lessons on Friday... it was interesting but i think it was good. We had this lesson with this lady we met on the street and we taught a ton of random things... but I think she felt the spirit so that's the important part. The thing I have found is it's just about being a little bit better every day. Sometimes it's hard because we are both new in our area and neither of us speak perfect Spanish. But we just need to seek the spirit, do our best, and God will help us out a lot. He will make up for the things we can't do yet.
Anyway, that night we bought eggs and made homemade pizzuki. mmm so good. Sunday, so hectic and I dont know why. O didn't come to church which was so sad. She had to go to the city again which means she can't be baptized this Saturday. She and we are all really sad about it but it's probably better because general conference is this week and it would have been kind of crazy. E, another investigator, didn't come either because his dad wanted him to go the catholic church. This same guy told us he knew Jose Smith was a prophet. He is a little confused, but it's okay, we will help him figure it out. But, the good news is we did have 5 investigatos at church! One of them was J. We contacted him our very first day here and he just had soo many questions so we didn't really even teach him a lesson. The next time his mom just wanted to fight with us so we told him we can't come back to your house but if you want to learn more you can come to church and we will figure it out. It has been 3 weeks so we were so excited and surprised when he showed up. He really wants to learn but his mom has told him a ton of weird things about us so we have a lot of work to do.
Another investigator is a woman named M and her son G. The exciting thing is she has another son on a mission in Puerto Rico. He comes home the 10th of October and they are getting baptized on the 12th. The exciting thing is that it's going to be a surprise, he doesn't even know yet! We are so excited! Another special thing is G is deaf and mute. He is 13 and the cutest thing ever. He loves to come to church and read foyettos (pamphlets) and wants to read the book of Mormon. It's just kind of hard to teach him but we have to make sure he knows it so he is kind of teaching us. He reads the foyetto and then signs it to us. Who knew I would be learning sign language too! So if anyone knows how to teach the word of wisdom and law of chastity and all the lessons in sign language, we could use all the help we can get. Later that day we had a lesson with a little 13 year old menos acitvo girl. She is the niece of our ward mission leader who just got home from a mission. She told us she knows our church is true but she just got baptized in another church and refuses to go to ours. It's sad to see someone so little fall away. One of the harder lessons we have had but we are just hoping that one day she will figure it out.
The work is so great here. I am so grateful to be here and especially grateful to be with hermana Huish! I talked to president Rodriguez on the phone this week and he had heard about the story (of her and Olivia hoping to be companions one day) and he told me that he had had no idea that we were friends from home and he just thought it was the coolest thing ever! God definitely has put us together in Sabana Yegua for a reason and I love it so much. Thanks everyone for your letters and love....I love you! Hermana Rush
